Japanese Dolphinarium 101: Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise

General Info:

Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise (八景島シーパラダイス) is a theme park consisting of rides, large aquariums, “interaction” lagoons and dolphin shows. Marine mammals on display include Beluga, Pilot Whales, False Killer Whales, Commerson’s Dolphin, Bottlenose Dolphin, Pacific Whitesided Dolphin, Polar Bears, Walrus, Sea Lions, Seals.

News:

Whale sharks are currently “off display.” The whale shark page on the website says a female whale shark named Nanami was acquired in November of 2010 but died on October 16, 2016 (after a loss of appetite starting from September 29, 2016) - she was apparently the last whale shark they had.
The operator of Sea Paradise (Seibu Holdings) plans to open a Taiwan aquarium.
Polar Bear Death - “Yukihime” was sick off and on since 2015, died June 26, 2017 (she was 1 of 2 bears on display)
In Feburary of 2017, a beluga whale died.
In August 2017, a Commerson Dolphin died.
