Sustainable Swaps: Zero Waste Shampoo Alternatives
Did you know hundreds of millions of shampoo bottles are thrown away in the USA every year? A lot of these bottles aren’t recyclable and even the ones that are recyclable are often tossed in the trash. Even worse, they’re completely unnecessary. On average, 10% of what you’ll find in a shampoo bottle is the actual product and the rest is water!

There are a lot of things to love about EcoRoots shampoo bars. They’re completely plastic free- even the packaging! They’re also palm-oil free and don’t contain silicone, phthalates, or parabens.
Unlike a lot of shampoo bars we’ve tried, these don’t require a lot of effort or water to get a good froth going. They do have very strong scents (all of which are heavenly), but we know that can be a pro or a con depending on your preference!

We love Fat And The Moon’s shampoo powders. They come in small glass bottles that can be repurposed after use. We’ve been propagating plants cuttings in ours! Their compact packaging is also perfect for traveling, camping, or a weekend away. You’ll never have to worry about packing too much fluid in your carry-on bag or your liquid shampoo making a mess in your checked luggage!
They’re easy to use. Just put some powder in your hand, add some water, rub it between your palms, and watch it get foamy.
The company is also cruelty-free and many of their products are vegan!
